Marissa Monroy

Austin Energy

With more than 20 years of experience in public relations, media strategy and crisis communication, Marissa Monroy is a storyteller at heart and a strategist in action. As Director of Communications for Austin Energy—the nation’s third largest municipally owned electric utility—she leads high-impact messaging efforts that inform, engage and inspire. She guides a dynamic communications team in developing and executing strategic campaigns that promote renewable power, energy conservation and customer affordability.

Whether shaping public perception, translating complex topics into compelling narratives, or navigating an emergency, Marissa thrives at the intersection of information and impact.

Born in El Paso, Texas, Marissa grew up along the U.S.-Mexico border, shaped by the richness of a bilingual and bicultural community. As the daughter of an immigrant, she understands the power of opportunity and connection, values that continue to drive her passion for storytelling and public service.

Marissa holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree from the University of Southern California. When she’s not nerding out on public sector initiatives, she’s likely running around Lady Bird Lake, exploring Austin on her electric bike or hanging out near the table with the carbs.
