Advocacy

At the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GAHCC), advocacy lies in the heart of our mission and is one of our organization's pillars. For nearly 50 years, the chamber has been a proud advocate for the Hispanic business community in the Austin metro area. As a member driven business organization the chamber provides a platform for our members voices to be heard at all levels of government. The GAHCC's primary platform is through its advocacy committee.

As a member of the chamber's advocacy committee, you will have the unique opportunity to help shape and guide the chamber's advocacy and legislative initiatives. Additionally, advocacy committee membership allows you to partake in exclusive conversations with public officials and community leaders. In 2020, the GAHCC advocacy committee hosted a Texas Senate District 14 special election candidate forum, an M/W/DBE session with City of Austin Small and Minority Business Resources Department, and introduced a comprehensive state legislative agenda key to Latino business growth.

The GAHCC Advocacy Committee meets on the Second Wednesday of the month. To attend our next GAHCC Advocacy Committee Meeting, contact John Espinosa at jespinosa@remove-thisgahcc.org.

In addition to working with our members through our advocacy committee, the GAHCC is constantly building and cultivating relationships with partner organizations on behalf of our members. Some of our partners include: the Mexican American Legislative Caucus (MALC), the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce (TAMACC), and the Multi-Ethnic Chamber Alliance (MECA).

Throughout 2021, be on the lookout for public policy updates and new and exciting events through our Public Policy and Economic Development Department.
