Fely Garcia Amador is the Vice President of Community Engagement for Austin PBS, a role she has held for the past year and a half. With over 20 years of experience in community affairs, Fely has dedicated her career to serving and empowering the Spanish-speaking community and has brought over her expertise to bring similar engagement to the community at-large.
In her previous role as Community Empowerment Director, she worked to build strong relationships with nonprofit and for-profit organizations, creating platforms to ensure the Spanish-speaking community remained informed on critical issues, including health, education, civic engagement, and financial literacy. By collaborating with community organizations, Fely has successfully organized impactful events such as education fairs, health fairs, citizenship forums, and entrepreneurial workshops—helping countless individuals access valuable resources. Through one-on-one engagement, she acts as a bridge between the community and organizations, fostering connections that drive positive change.
Fely is also passionate about preserving and celebrating Latin American culture in Central Texas. She has played a key role in producing and partnering on culturally significant events, including Día de las Madres (Mother’s Day), Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), and El Grito desde el Capitolio (The reenactment of the Cry for Independence at the Texas Capitol). By collaborating with city, county, and state entities, she ensures these traditions continue to thrive for future generations.
She has served on several boards, including the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas – Austin, AVANCE, AAF Austin (formerly Ad Fed), Pflugerville Education Foundation, SafeKids Coalition, and the Austin PBS Community Advisory Board. She is also a proud McBee Fellow with the Austin Area Research Organization (AARO)
Originally from Brownsville, Texas, Fely is a proud graduate of The University of Texas at Austin—Hook ‘em! She chose to stay in Austin, drawn to its vibrant culture and strong sense of community. Coming from a family of educators and researchers, she carries that influence into her work, ensuring that education and advocacy remain at the forefront of her efforts.
Fely now resides in Pflugerville, Texas, with her husband, two children (Mykal and Emma), and their two beloved pups, Trinity and Sheera.
